About the AMCB Nurse Midwife Certification Exam
The AMCB Nurse Midwife Certification Exam tests examinees on the knowledge expected of an entry-level nurse midwife. The exam itself lasts four hours and consists of 175 multiple choice questions. In 2018, the pass rate was 80.8% which was a decrease from the previous three years ((91.8% in 2015, 93.9% in 2016, 90.5% in 2017). As of February 2019, the US state with the highest number of certified nurse-midwives was California with 1,120, followed by New York with 1,008.
According to the AMCB Task Analysis Report for the CNM exam, it is broken down as follows:
- Antepartum 20.8%
- Intrapartum 21.6%
- Postpartum 16.8%
- Newborn 12%
- Well Woman/GYN 16%
- Women’s Health/Primary Care 12.8%
