Surgery CME Requirements

American Board of Surgery

    • At a Glance

    • Ongoing participation in Quality Assessment Programs.
    • By the end of year 3

      • 90 Category 1 CME hours (min. 60 self assessment hours)
    • By the end of year 6

      • 90 Category 1 CME hours (min. 60 self assessment hours)
    • By the end of year 9

      • 90 Category 1 CME hours (min. 60 self assessment hours)
    • By the end of year 10

      • MOC Exam (years 8-10 only)

    The American Board of Surgery requires 90 Category 1 CME hours every 3 years.
    Of these hours, all must be on a subject relevant to the physician's practice and a minimum of 60 must be self-assessment activities, with a minimum score of 75%.
    Achieving certification or recertification wtih the ABS will automatically waive 60 credits of the self-assessment CME requirement.

Surgery

    Surgery Question Bank CME - $599

    Earn up to 60 CME credits and 60 Surgery Self Assessment MOC credits while preparing for the ABS MOC exam. All questions, answers, and explanations are targeted to general surgery.

    GI and Hepatology CME - $59

    Earn 3 hours of GI and Hepatology CME while also earning 3 hours of ABIM approved MOC points.

    Appendix - $39

    Earn one hour of Appendix specific CME by going through questions, answers and explanations.

    Gallbladder CME - $39

    Complete 2 Gallbladder CME hours while also earning 2 ABIM Approved MOC points.

    Hepatitis C CME - $39

    Complete up to 2 hours of Hepatitis C specific CME
