At a Glance

15 total hours every 3 years

15 AMA Category 1 Credits (specific to Echocardiography) in the 3 years preceding application for recertification
50 Transesophageal echocardiograms per year in 2 of the previous 3 years (transesophageal recertification only)
400 2-Dimensional Echo/Doppler studies per year in 2 of the previous 3 years
100 Stress echocardiograms per year for 2 of the previous 3 years (Stress Echocardiography recertification only)

The National Board of Echocardiography requires 15 AMA Category 1 hours during the 3 years preceding application for recertification.

50 hours of either Category I or Category II CME
3 hours of pain management CME credits

The Massachusetts Board of Medicine requires that physicians complete 50 CME credits every 2 years. Included in these 50 credits must be 2 Credits in End of Life Care Issues, 3 Credits in Opioid Education and Pain Management if the physician prescribes controlled substances, 10 Credits in Risk Management, 3 Credits in Electronic Health Records, 2 Credits Per Chapter for Reading the Board’s Regs, 243 CMR 1.00-3.00
