Information about the ABR Core Exam
Getting your certification as a Radiologist is a two-part process, taking the CORE Exam and then the Certifying Exam. 36 months after you begin your radiology residency training, you qualify to take the CORE Exam.
This exam validates that you have acquired the knowledge, skills and basic understandings in the entire field of radiology as well as physics. It is an image-rich, computer-based exam that tests your knowledge of anatomy, pathophysiology, all aspects of diagnostic radiology and physics concepts important for diagnostic radiology.
What is covered on the Radiology Core Exam?
According to the ABR CORE Exam Blueprints, the following categories are covered on the exam:
- Breast Imaging
- Gastrointestinal (GI)
- Interventional Radiology (IR)
- Musculoskeletal (MSK)
- Nuclear Radiology
- Pediatric Radiology
- Computed Tomography
- Magnetic Resonance
- Noninterpretive Skills
How long is the Radiology CORE exam?
The Radiology CORE exam is a computer-based exam taken over three days.
- Day 1: 2 Sessions, 226 questions total
- Day 2: 2 Sessions, 217 questions total
- Day 3: 2 Sessions, 214 questions total
