100 total hours every 2 years
The Pennsylvania State Board of Medicine requires 100 CME hours every 2 years. Of these hours, a minimum of 20 must be AMA PRA Category 1, 2 hours must be on pain management, the identification of addiction or the practices of prescribing or dispensing of opioids, a minimum of 12 must be on the subjects of patient safety and/or risk management, and a minimum of 2 must be on the subject of child abuse recognition and reporting. The remaining credits may be completed through any combination of Category 1 or Category 2 activities. Credits on the subjects of office management or practice building will not be accepted.

Of these hours, a minimum of 20 must be AOA Category 1-A activities, a minimum of 12 hours must be Category 1 or Category 2 activities on the subject of patient safety and risk management. A minimum of 2 hours of board-approved education in child abuse recognition and reporting requirements (Category 1 or Category 2). A minimum of 2 hours of continuing education in pain management, the identification of addiction, or the practices of prescribing or dispensing of opioids (Category 1 or Category 2). The remaining credits may be completed through any combination of Category 1 or Category 2 activities.
