The American Board of Ophthalmology requires 250 AMA PRA Category 1 credits every 10 years. For certificates expiring on or before 12/31/2020, 25 hours must be completed each year. For certificates expiring on 12/13/2021 or later, an average of 25 hours over the 10 year period is sufficient. Of these hours, a minimum of 200 must be on the subject of Ophthalmology. The New Mexico Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners requires 75 Category 1 CME hour every three years. This requirements can alternatively be fulfilled through active membership in the AOA, certification or re-certification of a specialty board, or passage of the SPEX (special purpose examination) with a minimum score of 75%.

The New Mexico Medical Board requires 75 CME hours every three years. You can also fulfill this requirement by obtaining any of the following : the AMA Physician Recognition Award, the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) certificate of continuing education, or certification or re-certification by an AMBS approved specialty board during the renewal period.
