Neurological Surgery & Vermont CME Requirements

        • One Self Assessment Course (Choose from a number of options)
        • 60 Neurological Surgery Category 1 Credits

      The American Board of Neurological Surgery requires 150 CME hours every 3 years.

      Of these hours, a minimum of 60 must be AMA PRA Category 1 Credits in activities related to the subject of Neurological Surgery. The remaining hours may be earned through Neurosurgery related activities or additional AMA PRA Category 1 Credits.

      Learners must complete a self assessment module each cycle as well as a patient safety course each cycle.

      Learners must also complete Evidence of Evaluation of Performance in Practice each year.

      The cognitive examination must be completed once every ten year cycle.

  • Vermont Board of Medical Practice

      • At a Glance

        30 total hours every 2 years

      • 30 AMA PRA Category 1.
      • 1 Hospice, Palliative Care, or Pain Management.
      • 2 Safe and Effective Prescribing of Controlled Substances (Only physicians that prescribe substances).

      Every two years, the Vermont Board of Medical Practice requires 30 AMA PRA Category 1 hours. Of these hours, 1 must be in hospice, palliative care, or pain management.

      Due to the passage of Act 173, beginning with license renewals due Nov. 2018, all physicians with a DEA number, pending application for a DEA number, or who dispense controlled substances will be required to show they have completed a total of at least 2 hours over the course of the previous 2-year licensing cycle - rather than the current one hour - of continuing education on the topic of prescribing controlled substances.
